Pusa Basmati 1637 is an improved version of Pusa Basmati 1, a popular Basmati rice variety developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR) in New Delhi. Pusa Basmati 1637 has the same grain and cooking quality as Pusa Basmati 1, but it's more resistant to neck blast disease. This means that using Pusa Basmati 1637 instead of Pusa Basmati 1 can reduce the need for fungicides to manage blast disease. Pusa Basmati 1637 is the first early maturing Basmati rice variety with seed to seed maturity of only 130 days and average yield of 4.25 to 6.5 tonne/ hectare .
